Founding Beta Terms
Effective: when paid plans open. We'll post the date here. · Last updated: 13 October 2026
In short. The first people to pay for GivingTree Map during the Beta period receive founding pricing. Pricing is awarded in rounds called "rings," in the order people pay. Each ring receives an initial discount during the Beta period, which also applies during a post-Beta "carryover" period, and a separate discount that is smaller by percentage but lasts for the life of your account (with the exception of the Open ring, which only receives a discount during the Beta and carryover periods). The earlier your ring, the bigger both are. To receive the lifetime discount, you must pay for 12 months of the Service during the Beta and carryover periods, via 12 monthly payments or one annual payment. Monthly payments do not need to be continuous, only cumulative. These terms are the same for everyone in a given ring, and your account page shows which ring you're in.
Beta ring discounts are non-transferable. They apply only to the account they were originally awarded to.
Details of the currently available ring are as defined at any given moment on this website's pricing and sign-up pages. While we intend to keep these details in place throughout the applicable period, and if you have already received a Beta discount we will honor it as it was awarded to you, we retain the right to change details applying to future sign-ups, at any time and for any reason.
These terms are in addition to our Terms of Service. Where they cover a topic, they take priority.
1. The Beta
The Beta runs from the day paid plans first open until the end date we announce. We'll announce that end date by email to all members, and on this page, at least 90 days in advance.
During the Beta, GivingTree Map is never sold at full price. Every new subscriber gets at least 5% off list price. The discount currently open is shown on the pricing page.
2. Who gets a ring spot
You get a spot when your account makes its first successful payment for a membership plan during the Beta. Any plan counts, monthly or annual.
These don't take a spot:
- free trials
- courtesy access and other access codes
- re-upgrading after moving to the free plan (see section 9)
- moving to a higher plan (see section 6)
Each account belongs to one ring at most, and keeps it.
Holding your spot at checkout. When you open checkout, we hold the next available spot for you for 30 minutes. No one else can take it during that time. The spot is awarded when your payment succeeds. If you don't pay within 30 minutes, the spot opens again for the next person. The price shown at checkout is the price you'll be charged.
3. Rings and discounts
These are the rings as defined upon the most recent update to these terms. Again, while we intend to keep these details in place throughout the applicable period (and if you have already received a Beta discount, we will honor it), we retain the right to change details applying to future sign-ups, at any time and for any reason.
Spots fill in order of payment.
| Ring | Subscribers | Beta discount | Lifetime discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ring 1 | 1 to 100 | 80% off | 50% off |
| Ring 2 | 101 to 600 | 50% off | 20% off |
| Ring 3 | 601 to 1,600 | 20% off | 10% off |
| Ring 4 | 1,601 to 11,600 | 10% off | 5% off |
| Open | After Ring 4 fills, until the Beta ends | 10% off | None |
After the Beta ends, new subscribers pay full price.
What the discount is a percentage of. Discounts are taken off the list price of your plan at the time of each charge. If we change list prices, the Terms of Service, section 7, applies: at least 30 days' notice, and your percentage stays the same.
4. How long the Beta discount lasts
Your Beta discount starts with your first payment. It covers every charge dated up to the end of the calendar month that contains whichever of these comes later:
- (a) 12 months after the Beta ends, or
- (b) 31 December 2028
We call that point the end of your Beta discount period. The part of that period after the Beta ends is the "carryover" period. From the next charge on, your lifetime discount applies, if you've earned it (see section 5).
Example. Say, purely as an illustration, the Beta ended on 30 June 2027. Twelve months later is 30 June 2028. That's earlier than 31 December 2028, so the Beta discount covers every charge dated up to 31 December 2028. Lifetime pricing starts with the first charge in January 2029.
If the Beta instead ended on 15 March 2028, twelve months later would be 15 March 2029. That's later, so the Beta discount would cover every charge dated up to 31 March 2029.
5. Earning your lifetime discount
You earn your lifetime discount by completing 12 paid months on the same account.
- The months don't have to be in a row.
- An annual plan counts as 12 months once it's paid.
- Months paid at a discount count. Free months, courtesy access and trials don't.
- You need to complete the 12 months by the end of your Beta discount period (section 4). If you subscribe and stay subscribed, you'll always get there in time.
Once you've earned it, the lifetime discount stays with your account for life, on any membership plan. That includes moving to the free plan and coming back later. It can't be moved to another account.
6. Changing plans
Your Beta ring discount follows you when you change plans (tiers), with one time limit for upgrades.
- If you move to a lower plan, or switch between monthly and annual billing, you keep your ring discount. That includes moving back down after an upgrade.
- If you move to a higher plan while your ring is still filling, you keep your ring discount on the new plan.
- If your ring fills, you still have 30 days to move up and keep your ring discount. We'll email you the day your ring fills, and the following day counts as day 1. The window closes at midnight, your local time, at the end of day 30. "Your local time" means the time zone on your account.
- If you move to a higher plan after those 30 days, you pay whichever is better during your Beta discount period: your ring's lifetime discount, or the discount open to new subscribers at that moment.
Moving to a higher plan never takes a new ring spot. While you may receive a lower discount by percentage after the 30-day window, the original lifetime discount you were offered is still available to you, as long as you pay for 12 months of the Service during the Beta discount period.
7. Prices in Brazilian reais
Members in Brazil can pay in Brazilian reais (BRL).
How we set the BRL price. We multiply the US dollar price by the exchange rate we use, then round down to the cent (centavo). We never round up. The rate we use is the Banco Central do Brasil PTAX sell rate at the time we set or update our BRL prices, capped at R$5.00 per US dollar. If the PTAX rate is higher than R$5.00, we use R$5.00, and you pay less than the dollar price would cost you. The BRL price shown at checkout is the price you're charged.
Exchange-rate credits. Exchange rates move. To keep things fair, each month we compare what each BRL subscriber paid with what their plan would have cost at that month's average PTAX rate. If you paid more, we add usage credits to your account for the difference.
- Each credit is worth US$1, converted at that month's average rate.
- We round the number of credits up, so any difference earns at least 1 credit.
- These credits never expire.
Annual plans paid in reais. Your annual payment is spread across the months it covers. Each month, we compare that month's share with what it would cost at that month's average PTAX rate, the same way we do for monthly plans. If you paid more, you get the difference as usage credits, rounded up to the next whole credit. Credits arrive month by month, starting in your first month, not once at renewal.
All discounts in these terms apply to BRL prices in the same way they apply to USD prices.
We currently don't have similar arrangements for other currencies.
8. Refunds
You can get a full refund within 14 days of the first payment on your account. See the Terms of Service, section 8.
A full refund removes your ring discount from the account, and your spot doesn't reopen for someone else. If you subscribe again later, you join whatever ring is open at that time, like any new subscriber.
9. Cancelling and coming back
If you move to the free plan during your Beta discount period, your Beta discount ends. The months you've already paid stay on your account and still count toward the 12 paid months you need for your lifetime discount.
If your plan lapses because a payment failed, that counts as moving to the free plan, with one protection: update your payment method within 30 days and your plan and Beta discount come back as they were.
- If you come back before your Beta discount period ends, your ring's lifetime discount applies right away, as a courtesy, even if you haven't reached 12 paid months yet. If a better discount is open to new subscribers when you return, you get that one instead, without taking a new spot.
- If you reach 12 paid months by the end of your Beta discount period, the lifetime discount is yours to keep for life. Months before and after your break both count.
- If you haven't reached 12 paid months by then, the courtesy rate ends with your Beta discount period, and your next charge is at the regular price.
- If you come back after your Beta discount period has ended, you pay your lifetime rate if you've earned it, or the regular price if you haven't.
10. What the discounts cover
Ring discounts apply to membership plans only. Reports, extra usage and any usage credits you buy, when available, are always full price.
11. Seeing your ring
Your ring is shown on your account page, under your plan.
